The term “witch-hunt” has been used since the 1930s as a metaphor to describe the persecution and/or destruction of a person or group of people by mob mentality, particularly when the person or persons are condemned for either no true crime or minor infractions. So, as you can see, this is the best term in the dictionary to describe what has happened to R.O.K. Army Corporal Jung JiHoon (a.k.a Rain) since the first of the new year.

The many irresponsibly written and just plain bad articles that have been spread across the Internet concerning this young soldier/career entertainer have, as we understand it, inflamed South Korea’s “netizen” community to leave a petition of over 3,000 messages on the Republic of Korea’s military website, calling for everything from Rain’s head on a platter to prison to an entire repeat term of his mandatory service.
